In the hopes of creating a participatory blog, please take a guess at the following (and post your guess as a comment - that's what makes it interesting)!
The quotes below refer to an important church issue. Can you guess the issue? (The * designates the missing issue in the first quote)
The Bible’s [stand on] * is very plain. St. Paul was inspired, and knew the will of the Lord Jesus Christ, and was only intent on obeying it. And who are we, that in our modern wisdom presume to set aside the Word of God . . . and invent for ourselves a “higher law: than those holy Scriptures which are given to us as a “light to our feet and a lamp to our paths,” in the darkness of a sinful and a polluted world.”
“The advocates of this doctrine are brought into direct collision with the Scriptures. This leads to one of the most dangerous evils connected with the whole system, viz., a disregard of the authority of the word of God, a setting up of a different and higher standard of truth and duty, and a proud and confident wrestling of Scripture to suit their own purposes.”
Happy guessing – more explanation to come!

The Doctrine of the Suffiency of Scripture almost fits.
But if I know you, Hughesi, there will be more of a rebuke in it. Something more controversial. Am I right about that?
Will come back to it when I have more time.
J - this is not mine ... it's J's. I think the word 'rebuke' is too harsh here, controversey maybe, but mainly just simply some exploration outside the 'box'. Stay tuned for Jess' next post.
controversy hey?
well let me throw womans ordination out there just to stir the very big and controversial pot.....
- loving this idea Jess!! Lets get stirring
in other news I am exactly mid way through my final exams for 1st year and can I just say that it has been a tough monkey to tame!
But, I think, with the correct turning of the lever, the monkey is starting to dance!
oh and what a beautiful dance it is
keep studying hard and loving those around you - these are good days.
Thanks for stirring Craig! Hopefully a few more people will jump in as well . . .
Glad the exams are going well - it is very exciting to see things coming together ;) -j
Maye something that might be clearer in North America (as in the continent not the U.S)than in Australia. Liberalism? Though this might be too broad.

Greetings from light and bright daylight-saving sydney!
you poor buggers, I nearly fainted when I read that e-mail, it is not right to have pitch darkness in the middle of the day... what do canadians do to stop themselves from going crazy?
having already chatted to you about this controversy and consequently knowing the answer I'm not going to chip in a guess but I'm hanging out for that book to arrive!!!
we miss you guys...
I'm with J. Sufficiency of scriptures somehow. Could lead to a number of places...
SB
Could be a whole range of things. I think a large range of issues become socially acceptable at one time or another despite flying in the face of the gospel. I guess the main thing is to make sure we haven't acclimatised to something that is against the word.
As for my guess...I'm going to go with slavery
